Disturbed by the ways in which memories are often left out of imagining futures, Sarah Gelbard, Amanda Montague, and I developed a series of workshops and activities aimed at storytelling in and against the realities of stakeholder consultation for urban development projects. We have mostly emphasized on the plans for a new Public Library in Ottawa. Our main activity – Maplibs – combines a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book and a madlibs and offers an in situapproach to re-thinking our public spaces. We have run iterations of our project as part of the Cultural Memory Workshops, Jane’s Walk, Unschooled, and Carleton’s Heritage Conservation Symposium. We are in the process of writing up our preliminary findings but in the meantime we have recently published a collaborative article in the national issue of Spacing magazine.
